Tips and Advice to Ace the Cabin Crew Assessment Day

The Cabin Crew Assessment Day varies from airline to airline and the structure can be changed by the airline at any point in time. However, it usually consists of registration and document checks, introduction, reach/height test, tattoo checks, group test/exercise, mathematics test, language test and the final interview. The tips and advice in this article would help a candidate to pass every round with ease. So without any further ado, take a look at these useful tips:

1. Follow the Dress Code:

The first impression is the last impression. So make sure you are well and properly dressed. The dress code might differ from airline to airline. However, it is mostly business attire. It is recommended to emulate cabin crew attire. This does not mean to fully copy the attire or have the colour palette of the airline. Please note that it is just a recruitment process. That being said, it is important to choose the type of clothes you are wearing. Make sure you follow this:

Females:

  • A suit with a knee-length skirt
  • Single-coloured blouse
  • French Twist or a Bun hairstyle
  • Wear makeup
  • Closed heel shoes
  • Skin coloured stockings

Males:

  • One button suit
  • Plain shirt (one colour)
  • Well-groomed hair (short hair recommended). Please make sure your hair does not touch the collar.
  • Well/clean-shaven
  • Clipped nails
  • Polished shoes
  • One coloured tie

2. Be Punctual:

A cabin crew is not expected to reach late for the job. Keeping that in mind, the candidates are expected to reach the designated place in time. The time to reach is mentioned in the invitation email. It is recommended to reach 30 minutes before the start. Reaching early will not only give you time to get familiarized with the environment, but also the opportunity to build your network. In other words, you can also get to know other candidates by reaching early.

3. Communicate:

Note that from the time you enter, you are being watched. Make sure you talk with other candidates. This will not only help you to build a network but also boost confidence and alleviate your nervousness especially before starting the assessment day. That is why it is recommended to reach early at the designated location.

Also, make sure you speak only when asked to, do not talk over others, do not argue and do not stay idle while having a group discussion or a similar group activity.

4. Take Care of your Body Language:

During the cabin crew assessment day, remember to smile, sit up straight, avoid crossing your legs and arms. It is essential to note that over 50% of our communication accounts for body language and posture. For instance, if you keep on crossing your legs and arms, slouching, then it is a bad sign. As mentioned earlier, you are being watched from the time you enter.

While sitting, do not slouch. Comfy sofas and couches can be tempting to lean and slouch. Sit straight, smile and avoid crossing your legs and arms at all times. Also, do not make a fist. Rather, place your hands on your lap or a table. Also, for males, avoid manspreading.

Smile and make eye contact. Maintaining eye contact shows honesty, confidence and openness. However, do not overdo it or else, it would straight up turn out to be creepy.

5. Know Your Airline:

Make sure you study about the airline before attending the assessment day. Go to their website and find out about how the airline company came into existence, the airline’s promise, work environment, benefits, the airline’s fleet size, the type of aircraft the airline has, the number of destinations the airline flies to and other peculiar things about the airline.

This will mainly help you in preparing your interview questions such as “Why do you want to work for the airline?”  “What makes it different?”  “What makes it special?”  “How do you fit in?”  “What will you bring that makes you such a good match?”

Furthermore, pay attention during the introduction phase since important information about the airline is given during this phase. Make sure you retrieve essential parts especially parts including facts and figures during the introduction phase.

6. Final Interview:

Make sure to practice common questions asked in the cabin crew interview before attending the assessment day. Furthermore, do not forget to learn about the airline company in order to prepare the questions.

During the interview, remember to maintain proper body posture and do not forget to smile. Smiling is also proven to ease tension. Hence, it is helpful to keep you calm during the interview as well.

Here are some of the common cabin crew questions:

  • Tell me about yourself
  • How long were you employed with your last employer?
  • Do you enjoy flying and why?
  • How do you handle stress well on the job?
  • Describe your customer service skills
  • How long are you willing to work with us?
  • What skills according to you are important for flight attendants?
  • Why do you want to work for our airline?
  • What are your strongest skills?
  • Describe a time when you had a conflict with a coworker and how did you handle it?
  • Why do you enjoy serving people?

7. Enjoy the Process:

The assessment day can be stressful. Do not be the candidate who isolates himself in a corner quietly or the one who is hyper-focused and constantly worried about getting the job.

First off, be grateful for getting this amazing opportunity to showcase your skills. You might or might not get the job. However, you will surely get the experience in terms of interacting with people of different backgrounds and adapting to a new environment.
